A study presented at the American Society for Experimental Biology shows that drinking coffee can increase muscle strength in older adults and reduce their chances of falling.
In order to explore whether caffeine can enhance muscle strength in the elderly, sports scientists from Coventry University in the UK chose mice for experiments. To study the effects of caffeine on muscle strength, researchers classified mice's muscle types according to age.
The research results found that caffeine can enhance the muscle strength of two different skeletal muscles in mice, but this effect is not shown in young mice, but is more obvious in older mice. Jason Tallis, the author of this study, believes that caffeine has a beneficial effect on strengthening muscle strength in the elderly, so it can be consumed in moderation. The total daily caffeine intake is best not to exceed 250 mg, which is equivalent to 2 cups of coffee.
