Many people worry that eating too much carbohydrates such as staple foods will make them gain weight. However, experts remind that to promote muscle growth, consume honey, potatoes and other carbohydrates in a timely manner after exercise.
Dr. Cao Jianmin, director of the Medical Research Committee of the Chinese Triathlon Association and director of the Sports Biochemistry Teaching and Research Office of Beijing Sport University, pointed out that during exercise, the human body mainly relies on glucose stored in muscles and liver to participate in energy supply to maintain exercise intensity. Therefore, sufficient carbohydrate intake before, after, and during exercise can ensure sufficient glycogen reserves in the body.
Dr. Cao also emphasized that ingesting carbohydrates after exercise can promote insulin secretion in the body and promote muscle growth. It is best to consume fast-absorbing carbohydrates immediately after exercise, such as juice and honey. These two types of foods can cause the immediate release of insulin. About 40 minutes after exercise, you can eat slowly absorbed carbohydrates, such as potatoes, oats, pasta, etc.
